Stress is a pack of thieves
Stress rarely comes alone. Once it is comfortable in the habitat of our psyche, it brings its buddies - anxiety, irritability and tension headaches along. If it decides to linger on, it invites its special friend - panic attack too. As stress happily feeds on the rich diet of negative emotions, it grows fast and needs more room. As it spreads in the body, it makes us gain weight, experience indigestion, hypertension, insomnia, memory loss and poor immunity against everyday diseases. This voracious pack of thieves robs us of a chance to lead a meaningful and joyous life.
Is there something we can do beyond distracting ourselves with binge eating, endless scrolling on our phones and TV watching?
But before we can wage a war against the intruder and hope to declare victory, we need to understand what we are fighting against.
What really is stress?
Have you ever touched or visibly inspected stress? How about trying to measure it? We can use a scale to calculate our weight. Similarly, there is a machine to measure almost everything about us. But till today, there is no machine to measure stress. How come?
Since we can’t measure it, can we deny stress’s existence? We can’t because most of us feel it on a daily basis.
So, what exactly are we feeling?
What is this invisible power weighing us down?
Where does it live in our body? Does it reside in our liver? Or our brain?
If we try to search for it in our visible physical body, we can never find stress’s habitat. We can only find the ramifications of chronic stress’s presence in our bodies e.g. high cortisol levels and significant reduction in number of natural killer cells.
We need to expand our definition of who we really are to go beyond the visible physical body to discover stress’s true nature and it’s habitat.
A Pranic Healing perspective
According to the Pranic Healing system, every living entity has not one but two bodies - 1. visible physical body and 2. invisible body made of light.
The traditional medical system deals with the visible body. Pranic healing system, just like acupuncture, tai chi and chi gong, deals with the invisible body. In simplistic terms, this body of light is made of aura (bubble of energy around us), chakras (energy centers) and meridians (energy pathways). The invisible light or energy is called prana, chi, ki or ruah in different languages.
From Pranic Healing perspective, stress is a form of disease energy that lives in the habitat of the invisible body. As different chakras manage different organs and psychological functions, presence of stress energy in these chakras have different consequences. For example, stress energy in the Solar Plexus chakra can lead to indigestion and stomach ulcers. In the Meng Mein chakra, it can lead to hypertension.
